About the course

BSc (Hons) Zoology is a specialized degree that examines animals, how they work, their various behaviours, the places they live and their evolution. If you are a student drawn to animals and wanting to learn about their diversity, conservation and the sciences, this subject is a good fit. The content covers animal physiology, genetic areas, classification and ecology, as well as focused subjects such as creatures of the sea, parasites and protection of animals in the wild. Students learn by doing activities such as spending time outdoors, running practical experiments and researching independently. Throughout the course, students have the chance to apply what they learn by helping conservation organizations, wildlife centres and ecological monitoring groups. Students are encouraged by the curriculum to think about international environmental problems, ethical matters in wildlife management and the effects human activities can have on ecosystems.Because lecturers are invested in research, students benefit from new developments in zoological science. Via optional modules, students have the opportunity to specialize in their chosen subjects such as evolutionary biology, animal communication and habitat management. After completion of the program, students are qualified for fields in environmental consultancy, ecological research, conservation, science education and animal health industries. For many, after their initial degree, they choose to study wildlife biology, pursue veterinary science or take part in academic research. This program is well-balanced, so students prepare with theory, practice and practical skills needed in the industry of animal and environmental sciences.
