About the course

The BA (Hons) Sport and Physical Education degree is created for people who care about helping others stay active, healthy and happy by teaching. This course mixes learning the basics with applying them to prepare those who aspire to be educators, coaches or similar leaders in schools, sports or health-related organisations.Students investigate the basics of physical education, including how the human body functions, different sports mentalities and the main ideas behind fitness. The course explores approaches to teaching, coaching, designing a curriculum, supporting everyone and growth in children. Thanks to this approach, graduates know how to provide effective physical education for many different students.Students quickly get practical experience while doing placements in schools, sports clubs or the community. Actual work allows students to feel more confident in their abilities and use what they have learned at school. Working through the course, students learn skills in leadership, how to communicate well and manage the behavior of children and young people.Within this program, students reflect on the broader effects of sport and physical education in our society, discussing social connection, health benefits and a lifetime of participation in exercising. They receive help in conducting research and taking on personal projects related to today’s problems in sport and education.Alumni from the BA (Hons) Sport and Physical Education degree can find work as PE teachers (after completing a PGCE or equivalent), school sports coordinators, youth sport coaches or community development officers. The programs also provide students with access to postgraduate programs in education, sports science or health promotion. If your goal is to guide others towards an active and healthy life and make an enduring impact in schools or sports teams, this degree will be right for you.
