At the University of Chester, students of the BA (Hons) Product Design learn to make products that are useful, stylish and environmentally friendly. The course includes everything about the design process such as research, concept creation, making prototypes and testing. Included in the curriculum are details about materials and forming, 3D modelling, ergonomics and the tools CAD and 3D printing. By focusing on actual design problems and client requirements, students pick up useful skills and knowledge from the field. Students are taught to develop their imagination and solving power, as well as understand business and sustainability. Through the program, students can team up with peers from various fields and work with industry experts in workshops and on placements. Through education, those trained gain a collection of market-ready, practical and original product ideas. Career fields in design include product and industrial design, furniture design, design engineering and user experience (UX) design.
