The University of Chester BA (Hons) Interior Design course concentrates on making interiors that are practical, beautiful and eco-friendly. They are taught to design residential, commercial and public environments that suit what users need, what the buildings must do and how much space is available. The course involves looking at how space is planned, lighting, different materials, colour theory, 3D visualisation and how to use CAD and SketchUp. Working on projects in the studio and with concepts, students become able to design and present interior schemes from beginning to end. As part of the course, students attend industry briefings, go on visits to real design sites and take part in professional workshops. Collaboration, sustainability and user experience form the main focus in our curriculum. The course helps students create portfolios and learn what the industry is all about through internships and exhibitions. A graduate can find work as an interior designer, a spatial planner or an exhibition designer or choose a role in an architectural firm.
