About the course

Students earn this degree with the necessary skills to design and develop advanced games and digital experiences. When students use advanced programming and learn game engine development, they gain experience with real-time visuals, AI, game engine physics and online or networked systems.Learners become skilled with programming languages and Python and use Unreal Engine, Unity and Git to support their work. The course covers gameplay systems, shader creation, making games more efficient and layout of software. Participating in real projects and team efforts is fundamental to the course, giving students a solid collection of work when they graduate. The games tech specialist at Bournemmouth University (UK) is based on game software engineering, 3D simulation and the use of industry-standard workflows with the support of EA and Sony (Bournemouth Games Technology). University of Skövde focuses on game programming and partners with nearby game companies, allowing students to be part of the Nordic game community (Skövde Computer Game Development). In the USA branch of DigiPen, students work hard on basic programming and simulations and graduates often land jobs at studios such as Nintendo and Blizzard (DigiPen Game Development).Artists and programmers at the Media Design School (New Zealand) learn to collaborate in real time, placing a strong emphasis on choosing AAA game development standards. Here at Simon Fraser University, students in CDM join technical design and user experience to train for roles in serious games, virtual reality and human-computer interaction (SFU Game Technology).Students complete their program prepared to work in game development, interactive system engineering, making simulation software and newer fields in tech such as XR and cloud gaming.
