In Birmingham City University, BA (Hons) Architecture course helps students prepare for Part 1 of RIBA recognition and also starts them on the path to registering as architects in the UK. The program centers on helping students learn to design in practical ways, use creativity and consider current subjects like sustainability, climate change and the affect architecture has on the community. Students kick off their education by participating in studio-based assignments that are much like what they would face in the design world. The course covers architectural design, history and theory, new construction technologies and digital models created using software commonly used in this field. Educational workshops, building models and field investigations are important learning methods in this program. Because the architecture program connects with local and international architecture practices, students get to hear speakers, join critiques with top firms and take part in work placements. Through this course, students from different design, planning and construction backgrounds can join forces to learn together. As a result of their diversity, graduates can go on to RIBA Part 2 design courses or start careers in architectural design, planning of cities, sustainability or construction.
