About the course

The BA (Hons) Archaeology course at Canterbury Christ Church University is tailored for people who wish to study human history and culture using archaeology. Students can learn history from theory and by doing practical activities, helping them find context for things happening now.Students work alongside others and get to practice archaeology in the field, use technology in computer labs and develop skills in geographic information systems. Among the main topics covered are archaeological science, studies of material culture, environmental archaeology and the study of human remains. In addition, the curriculum includes subjects such as cultural identity, religion, heritage policy and the ethics of preservation.Learners are prompted throughout the course to analyze situations, follow ethics and consider how archaeology affects the present. The chance to join in real excavations and cooperate with heritage groups helps students put their learning into practice. Thanks to academic staff support and access to suitable resources, students build the ability to carry out research and analysis.Graduates with this degree fit well into archaeology, museums, heritage, education and conservation because of how closely their training matches what is needed. The degree also forms a base for anyone interested in postgraduate courses related to archaeology.Carefully designed to suit student careers, this course ensures graduates have well-rounded knowledge needed in heritage and cultural fields.
