At Huddersfield University, the Acting, Performance and English Literature BA (Hons) course mixes readings on English Literature with hands-on training in theatre work. Students use this course to study both old and modern literature and also develop performance skills during practical workshops. Students read and analyze major texts from the genre, from Shakespeare to modern plays and poetry, to improve their grasp of their surroundings, themes and how they are looked at by scholars. Also, training the body, voice and character helps students develop confidence and be adaptable with different roles. The program motivates students to explore their creativity and practice reflection which prepares them for work in theatre, education, publishing or cultural management. Since students can use professional spaces and have industry partners, they experience learning that features both practical skills and clear theoretical understanding.
