Birmingham City University is located in Birmingham, England’s second biggest city and is open to everyone. In 1843, the school started as Birmingham College of Art and was only acknowledged as a university in 1992. At present, BCU has a student body of almost 31,000 coming from over 100 nations, showing its commitment to international diversity.Two campuses belong to the university: one in City Centre and the other in City South. New facilities for Design and Media, Business, Law, Social Sciences and the Conservatoire for music and performing arts have been added at the City Centre Campus. Health and education support is given to City South Campus students by the Faculty of Health, Education and Life Sciences.

There are many courses offered at every level in the Arts, Design and Media, Business, Law and Social Sciences, Health, Education and Life Sciences and Computing, Engineering and the Built Environment Faculties of BCU. Academic Criteria The University of Birmingham welcomes undergraduate applications from students with A levels or equivalent qualifications. Entry criteria for each programme will differ depending on its subject area and the requirements set out by each department. Students can find the entry requirements on the specific web page of their chosen course. English language criteria International students will need a good level of English language proficiency to study at Birmingham. This can be shown through an English language test. Depending on the chosen course, undergraduate students will generally need:
  • IELTS – overall score of 6.0–7.0, with no band lower than 5.5–7.0
  • TOEFL – overall score of 80–95, with no score lower than 19–23 in each band (reading, writing, speaking, and listening)
  • PTE – overall score of 64–67, with no score lower than 59–67 in all four skills
  • Or equivalent
90 percent of graduates from the University of Birmingham find employment or continue their studies within six months of graduation.
